Bromus japonicus (scientific name: Bromus japonicus Thunb. ex Murr., also known as Japanese brome, Chinese Pinyin: Que Mai, Simplified Chinese: 雀麦), is a species of annual erect grass in genus Bromus (grasses family, Poaceae). Found on edge of forest, hillsides, along the roadsides and in wetlands (usually from between 50 to 2,500 meters in elevation) in temperate zone across the world, the plant can grow up to 90 cm tall. The fruit-spike of Bromus japonicus is used as antiperspirant and ocyodinic in traditional Chinese medicine (CTM) and widely adopted in treating different diseases and health problems, such as retention of placenta.
